Addiction nursing

Developing addiction nursing expertise

Matua Raḵi supports the development of addiction nursing expertise and recognises the specialist knowledge and skills they bring to the addiction treatment sector.

We work closely with Drug and Alcohol Nurses of Australasia (DANA), the peak nursing organisation in Australasia, to collaborate on initiatives that support the development of nurses working in addiction.

We do this through:

  • holding an annual addiction nurses symposia, which raises the awareness of initiatives and encourages the development of leaders in the field
  • supporting the addiction nurses advisory working group, which guides the activities and function of Matua Raḵi in this area
  • promoting the addiction nursing competency framework and progression along the nurse practitioner pathway.

Addiction Nurses Symposium

The latest Addiction Nurses Symposium was held in Hamilton on 29 July 2019.
